Celebrating Sexy Writers

Dear Fellow Smutters,

Last month, as most of you already know that land on this blog, follow me on FB, or are on my e-mail distribution list, know that I started a monthly erotic reading series affectionately called, Neve Black’s Naughty Nightcaps, while being videotaped at the best bar in Cleveland, The Literary Café.

To kick things off last month, I read the adorably-sexy and very talented, Heidi Champa. I love Heidi’s work. It’s creative, fun, and loaded with hot description that gets all my juicy-juices flowing.  She may not know this, but I love that her first name connotes a sense of innocence, but clearly a name is not just a name my friends, because just below that angelic and chaste Heidiness, lies an erotic siren.

Next Saturday, September 26, marks the second month for this series. And I’m very proud to be reading the amazing penned stories of Jeremy Edwards. Jeremy has a way with words - steaming up the pages, while adding his witty sense of humor and pervasive charm. Jeremy is one of the first writers I met who swam over to me and coaxed me into the deeper end of the erotic pool after what I refer to as crashing Alison Tyler’s  blog/pool party some time last year. As parties go, one thing led to another and by the time all was said and done, I’d met so many incredible people from around the globe – I was giddy, actually I’m still giddy knowing how many very impressive writers there are that enjoy writing erotic literature. It’s really something to celebrate.

So, in the spirit of celebrating, I’m choosing to read a writer’s work each month. I can’t say that this series will last forever, but I’m booked for this month, next month and the month after that. If you’re wondering how I’m choosing to celebrate an author, well, that’s a good question and I’m a bit tardy in expressing my astro-analytical choosing method with you: I’m trying to do this in what I consider the fairest way possible, which is by astrological order, of course. Hey, it’s me, the lover and follower of astrology, what did you expect?

With all that said if you’d like for me to read a few of your hot, short-shorts, please let me know (black.neveat gmail, com), while also letting me know when your birthday is. One more note: I just started last month, and it’s possible that I missed your birthday (for example, Virgo, Danielle), please accept my apologies; just shoot me an e-mail and I’ll work you in – promise.

oh..i for sure email you..because i totally would love you to read a story of mine..:-)))

  • My innocent face is over here blushing!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for all your kind words, Neve.

  • Great, Danielle! I look forward to that .

  • Heidi,
You’re so cute, even though I know behind that cute name is sultry passion.

  • I’m blushing, too! (Heidi, we can have a blushing contest.)

I’m so excited about the 26th! Wow, my words in the sexy, smiling mouth of Neve Black. (Don’t forget to send me a postcard from Cleveland, you lucky little words!)

  • Oh, Jeremy…you’re very sweet. I’m looking forward to this too. Thank you again. :-)

  • Neve, this is such a wonderful idea and such a great celebration of the pleasure of words. It feels like we’re throwing a little party each month and raising our glasses with the toast that my family always uses on celebration days or birthdays “Here’s to Name, for being Name!” Sounds sort of silly, but it’s actually a very affirming ritual :-).

My local NPR station has an ongoing series where authors come in and read from their works–I lucked into an appearance–but the producer said he sees it as an archive of voices, a living library. That’s what you’re doing for erotica, which is fitting for such a creative, positive and generous spirit!

  • Hi Donna!
Thank you for your kind thoughts. That means a lot to me.

I feel passionately about writing. I think anyone that writes feels that same passion too. The erotic genre and all its beauty- beauty that defies societal’s rigid boundaries and push past closed minds; hoping that someday a mind will open just a smidgen and one our hot and lovely words drip inside. We all hope as writers and I suppose as sex educators that what we write; that our words somehow act as a magic key to unlock something inside a reader that allows them to feel good about sex. Because we knows sex is good. And hell yes, it should be celebrated!

I hope my little video contribution to the community; honoring each incredible and truly splendidly talented erotic writer shines through.

p.s. Oh and here’s a great big shout out to NPR! That rocks!!

donna..i totally love the toast!! and i love also the idea of a living library..maybe thats what we are..we write books because we are books…

  • I love the toast idea too, Danielle.

“…we write books because we are books….” Nice!

  • What a wonderful thing to do, Neve! Now if only I had something to offer that wasn’t 8 billion words long… (Well, that’s how this vampire book feels at the moment ;-) Especially when I’m running the spellchecker.)

I’m Saggitarius btw. I wonder what you’ll be predicting for me next year!

  • Hi Janine!
I’d love to read your work. Perhaps I could read a snippet or two from a larger piece? Hmmm..Sommer Marsden is also a Sag, so it makes sense to celebrate our two erotic ladies; ruled by Jupiter, the planet of expantion on the same night. I love Sagitarrius’ bountiful spirit, big hearts and jovial attitudes.

It’s a whole new playing field when taking on the 50K+ word novel arena. So, good for you! I’m sure your vampire novel is going to be panty-dampening hot! :-)

  • What a lovely idea, Neve, and how generous of you to devote your reading time and lovely mouth to the words of other writers.

I did my very first reading, ever, a few weeks ago, at a fetish club. All was going well until I started thinking, ‘Hey, this is going very well. It’s really not all that hard as long as I - um - concentrate - where was I?

Sigh. Sold a few books though, so can’t complain. Good luck with the series.

  • Hi Madeline,
I think this might be a first time stop for you, yes? Really, the pleasure to read other incredibly talented and wonderful people’s work is all mine. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity. Really thrilled.

Oh, boy, I can just imagine what that reading might have been like for you - fetish club? How sublimely perfect. The concentration piece with all that extracurricular activity within close proximity could lead to reading derailment. Good for you though! I bet you somehow managed beautifully and had a ball too.

Yah! You sold books? Now that’s damn impressive!

Please let me know if I can celebrate you by reading your work - once again, I’m a pleasure seeker and it would be all mine. :-)
