Grunge Girl and Poppy Seeds

As the Spicy, blog tour continues tomorrow on Sunday, August 16th, we head over to the lovely Emerald’s place to get a bit trippy (I think) on poppy seeds.

You say poppy seeds, I say heroin. I say heroin and I think of living in Seattle during the grungy, garage band years of Sub Pop records and the bands they labeled, like Nirvana, Alice and Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Sebedoh and Chixdiggit. I have so many great memories when I worked as a conservative (stop laughing) banking professional by day and then after the whistle-stop blow of 5:00 p.m., I would jump into a convenient telephone booth and transform into grunge-girl; slipping out of a sensible, navy blue suit and into slumpy jeans, a washed out tee-shirt, Doc M’s and a flannel shirt. I hit most of the no-name, late night music venues found hidden below the city. I heard a lot of really great music back then, but I didn’t get to all of it. I’m not sure if anyone could have, unless of course their veins were tripping on poppy seeds.

Great times back then and more to be found at Em’s tomorrow. See you there!

  • Ha! Thanks Neve. Seems somewhat funny to read about your directing other people to my post when I haven’t actually finished it yet (LOL)!

And what an interesting account. You lived in Seattle? I was just talking about Seattle last night (Yankees are playing the Mariners right now, so I was reminded as I was watching the game :) ). I’ve only been there once. I lived in Spokane for a year and headed over to Seattle one time for a matchbox twenty concert — not exactly grunge, I know, but my favorite band at the time. ;)

Thanks again — I look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

  • I’m sorry, Em. The good news is, you have so many fabulous other things for people to read on your site if they stop there before your yummy spice post. :-)

  • Haha, nothing to be sorry for at all — it was much more a commentary on my apparent procrastination. ;) And what a lovely thing to say — thank you!

  • Em,
I’m headed over to the poppy seed, opiate festival now!
