During BAK’s Rose and Mary spice tour stop last Sunday, it was the hottest day here in Cleveland, thus far. Oppressingly hot, hot. Miraculously, there was a fabulous film playing that afternoon, so I headed to the cool and dark, Cinematheque to watch, Tulpan, which is a story about the life of a sheepherder in Kazakhstan. It’s a social/cultural and history lesson all rolled into one whenever Ivisit my favorite theater.
The emotional complexity of this film was spectacular. Part romantic-fiction and part documentary about a young man coming of age and the unexpected, but oh so, gloriously pleasant reminder that miracles really do exist. If you get a chance, go see Tulpan. It’s a wonderful cinematic jewel.
