Guilty Pleasure

michael

I have a confession to make (mumbles, bless me Father for I have sinned…sorry, force of habit). I really like the USA Network show, Burn Notice.  That’s it. That’s my confession.

Before I went over to the dark side and relinquished my cable and all its time consuming glory, I got sucked into watching this show. Damn.  Everytime I poo-poo television, they lure me back in some way. Damn. Double damn. Television is like really good sex with a bad boy/girl.  You know you can’t do it forever, shit there’s work to be done; you’re going to get your ass kicked, but it’s a hard habit to walk away from, right?

It was this sex-pot, hottie  writer that recently turned me back onto the show.

You see, she mentioned her Burn Notice watching ways, and it made me miss the Macgyver meets, Mission Impossible, meets comedic humor. I used to flop onto my green cushy, sofa; flip on my now defunct boob-toob; grab a yogurt from the fridge and watch the cool as a cucumber, Michael Westen, his fucking hot, girlfriend/ex-girlfriend/ex-Irish assassin/partner, Fiona Glenanne,  fiona1 Sam Axe, the ex military, semi-FBI informant and Mom, aka Madeline Westen. They each contribute to my television, heroine habit.

The show is wonderfully well cast and well, hell, I still don’t have cable, but I’ve rented all four of the seasons and I was zealous to learn that the show is still going strong.  sam1 If the show hasn’t been pulled from its prime time cable spot, it’s probably safe to say that Sommer and I aren’t the only Burn Notice fans out there. Hoo-ha!

momSo tell me, do you have guilty televsion show pleasure? No fair picking PBS either. I’m talking smack-addictive type of television, not  too intellectually stimulating. Are you slutty and have more than one? How many? What do you love about them? Feel like confessing? Want me to shut up so you can talk now? Okydoky, I’m sliding back the screen, and I’m hear listening.

I’m ready for my penance now -

Say one Our Father, three Hail Marys, and bend over….
    ;)

I’ll have to think about the TV shows….

  • Hey Marina!
What? No Act of Contrition? haha.

    I’m bending over, baby -

  • Marina

You can say an act of contrition if you’d like - I’ve done a fair amount of sinning, I’m just not sorry for a fair amount of it!

Other than a few sitcom comedies I don’t spend much time watching the tube.
I agree with: Television is like really good sex with a bad boy/girl. You know you can’t do it forever, shit there’s work to be done; you’re going to get your ass kicked, but it’s a hard habit to walk away from, right?
Although I think tv is easier to walk away from than the bad boy! :)

I did ring the bad boy over the weekend in a weak moment…
ah well, I guess I’m just a lil sinner!

  • Good for you.

We all have needs, Gigi. A girl has to do what a girl has to do, right? :-)

  • I have couple….I adore “Chuck”…got hooked on it from the first ep, and actually have the first season on DVD. I love Sarah, she’s such a badass and…well…should I say it? Oh hell, why not, it’s a confession, right? She’s just fucking hot! http://www.nbc.com/Chuck/video/clips/sarah-sizzles/933961/

Other than that, I don’t have many shows that I sit down to watch. I have quite the collection of shows on DVD(Charmed, Xena, XFiles, Alias) and those are my procrastination fodder. I’ve been known to curl up on the couch in the winter and watch one of those all day long, if the mood strikes ;)

  • Hey JM,
I love that you’ll sometime spend an entire day on the couch, curled up with a blanket; watching one of your classic pleasures. That’s cool.

Let’s see, I think you need at least 10 lashings for your guility pleasure penance. Remember, you’r not supposed to enjoy the penance - :-)

  • Gigi

I just don’t want to need him *beats self on head* :)

  • Hey Gigi,
It’s a slippery slope sometimes. Damn hormones. :-)
    Chin up.

  • Hmmm…10? ok, ok…

Sometimes things just build up and I need the down time. I work full time, help my husband with our fledgling mini-farm, keep house, cook, and try to write when I can. Sometimes, you just need to spend a day on the couch and let you brain rest. Otherwise burnout happens, and that’s not good.

  • Hey JM,
    You’re funny. 10 it is!

I think it’s great you recognize when it’s time to decompress. We all need days just to chill. It’s the healthy balance between Yin and Yang.

    Thank you for sharing.
